LUMIERE FESTIVAL – January 18-21
Lumiere is the UK’s largest light festival. The festival, produced by London-based creative company Artichoke, debuted in Durham in 2009. The festival was part inspired by the Fête des lumières in Lyon. Hosted in winter time, and free to attend, the festival typically comprises a number of light art-installations, as well as illuminating iconic buildings and locations.

PROGRESS AND PROCESS:
this section should include in-progress images of projects and assignments, scanned sketches, descriptions of progress

REFLECTION:
this section should include what you accomplished that week
This week focused on 3D modeling. I enlarged two shapes that I intend to use for mold making. The enlargement created some issues with printing so I had to troubleshoot and reprint one of the iceberg shapes. In class on Friday, I would like to discuss the specific direction to pursue. There are two options.
- Explore the 3D model mold making of the Arapaho Glacier. This would involve creating a mold of the specific site. By creating a mold of this site, the entire site would melt/be destroyed (including the landscape). The idea of this got me upset, so I wanted to discuss it further. This would need to be small in order to create in-house. (maximum dimension of print bed surface)
- Utilize the iceberg shapes to create visual representation/concept of the melting. This version would NOT be site specific but can be created/developed LARGER than option 1.
Next steps are:
- Create 3D forms – want to make site-specific landscape and then some bones (for drama)
- Visit Plasticare to discuss acrylic/glass melting surface. (elevated to hide temperature controls)
- Order wax/molds
