ABANDONED/DISTRESSED ENVIRONMENT – The Arabian Sea: Somewhere off the coast of Mumbai

The dawn has brought a calm, stillness to the air. With that, an eerie silence that holds no hint to the ravages of the night before. Relieved to have washed up on a small island, Rahul finds himself disoriented and unsure what to do next. He survived the tsunami, but there is no sign of his fishing boat or his shipmates. With a crew of eight, Rahul couldn’t have been the only one to survive. As he glances around unable to move, Rahul notices a small one-man boat that has clearly been abandoned. It appears to be missing an oar, and the seat has been broken. Still exhausted Rahul decides to sleep a bit longer. Perhaps after a bit more rest, he can sort out where he is, and what exactly to do next.

Rahul awakens, his body sore and damaged by the sea. From the position of the sun it appears to be almost noon, and for the first time, he is truly aware of his immediate surroundings. The dock by the boat seems to have been recently repaired, but the tsunami has destroyed much of the progress. There are a few ropes close by and Rahul notices something shiny, bobbing up-and-down in the water. Rahul jumps into the cold seawaters and retrieves a hollow gold bracelet. It is made from an ornate pattern that Rahul immediately recognizes as a map of New Delhi. In fact, at the base of the bracelet is the India Gate, a war memorial located by the Rajpath, on the eastern edge of the ‘ceremonial axis’. Rahul knows this area well; it was formerly referred to as the Kingsway. This could possibly be a hint as to the owner. Rahul realizes he must not be far off the coast, and soon decides to begin his efforts to return to shore. Possibly to find the owner of this treasured bracelet.

What do we learn about the setting of the scene from your renders and what actions might follow?

The scenes are shot off a small island. The first set of scenes are from misty dawn and the second set are shot near noon. The owner of the boat may return or someone may be nearby making repairs to the dock. There is a gold bracelet floating by the boat. Someone must have been here recently.

What changes are made to those conceptions by the changes you have made on the space?

The dock has been damaged by a recent tsunami. Perhaps the missing oar was taken by the sea. The seat of the boat was broken, likely while a person was trying to flee. From the pattern on the bracelet, we can determine we are located off the coast of India. What is that gold bracelet? Is it just debris from the tsunami or a possible clue to whoever was here last?
